If you spend any time on the Internet, you’ve likely seen the “Should mothers have careers?” chart from The Transformed Wife.
And if you haven’t please be prepared to spit out your drink.
The chart basically divides working moms and stay at home moms into two separate categories. And it makes a case that stay at home moms are superior. Because of course it does.
Working moms vs. stay at home moms
It seems like this fight will never end. But I’m here to put it to sleep. Both working moms and stay at home moms have big jobs. Raising children, whether you’re around them 24/7 or not, is difficult.
Does anyone say you stop being a mom when your kids go to school? Um, no. Because being a mom is a 24/7 job whether you’re physically in the same room as them or not.
Both working moms and SAHMs have it tough.
We’re on-call 24/7. Kids always want their moms. Even if dad is really, really awesome. Mom almost always trumps dad. (Sorry, dads.)
The right way to raise your kids?
Guess what? The right way to raise your kids is pretty simple: love them and take care of them. And as the parent, you get to define how you do that.
I grew up with a stay at home mom. She taught me so, so much. And the older I get, the more I appreciate my mom for all she did for me.
But when it came time for me to have my own kids, being a stay at home mom wasn’t something I wanted to do. And my mom supported me. She raised me as a strong woman with the confidence to pursue my dreams.
I have a daughter who sees me working hard. And even though I work outside the home, I still do a lot at home. All moms do. Because we’re all parents.
We all have it tough.
Parenthood is rough. We all have good days and bad days. Should mothers have careers? The answer is simple: mothers should do whatever they want to.
The only thing mothers should do more of…
Is support each other. We all care about the health and wellbeing of our children. And we want the world to be a safe, kind place to raise our kids. I know we all want our children to have bright futures.
And we can make the world a better, kinder place if we start leading by example.
